When it comes to travel, timing is everything, just like the perfect cup of coffee or catching the sunset at just the right moment. If you’ve ever wondered which days are best to travel, not just for saving money but for a smoother experience, I’ve got your back and a little story from my recent travel to Atlanta to go with it.
What Are the Best Days to Travel?
Here’s a tip most seasoned travelers swear by: Tuesdays and Wednesdays are your golden days.
Why?
Cheaper flights: Airlines tend to release deals on Monday nights, and by Tuesday or Wednesday, the prices drop to compete.
Less crowded airports: Fewer business and leisure travelers means shorter lines and more room to breathe.
Lower hotel rates: Midweek stays are less in demand, so you can sometimes score a great deal, while everyone else is still traveling on the weekend, plus, who doesn’t love a hotel pool without the splash party?
And now, for the story…
That Time I Flew to Atlanta on a Tuesday
Not too long ago, I booked a midweek trip to Atlanta, partially to get away and partially to see family. Let's face it we all need a break sometimes. I grabbed a flight on a Tuesday morning for less than the cost of my weekly coffee habit (okay, maybe two weeks… I really like coffee). I'm typically a Delta girl but for a 1.5 hour flight I will make concessions sometimes and this time I did. I flew Southwest and they were having a sale.
Hartsfield was as calm as can be expected since its a hub but I didn't feel rushed. It was an early flight, almost peaceful, well as quiet as Hartsfield can be around 7 am. I ubered to Tru by Hilton in Smyrna, the place was cozy and close to shopping and even the stores weren't crowded early. I knew I was on to something.
That evening, I got out with family went to the Battery at Truist Park, we ate at Superica because why not! Mexican food is always a hit. I was on a mission to clear my head from work and stress by hanging out with family and friends. And that's just what I did. And this was just an impromptu trip.
As I think about it now, we all need to learn to slow down and find joy in the small things. This was a small moment, but one of those sweet little reminders: slowing down, traveling at the “off” times, gives you space for unexpected magic.
Travel Tip Wrap-Up
Best days to book flights: Tuesdays and Wednesdays (early morning or late evening).
Best days to fly: Midweek (especially Tuesday/Wednesday).
Best days to stay in hotels: Sunday through Wednesday for the best rates.
Bonus tip: Try traveling against the crowd. For example, fly out when others are heading home, and return before the weekend rush.
Have you ever taken a midweek trip that turned into something special? Tell me about it in the comments!
Until the next adventure,
Loni
